When you are looking into a possible work at home business, there are some things you want to make sure of.  First of all, you don’t have the money to throw away at scams.  If you had money to simply throw into the wind, you wouldn’t be looking for a home business to start in the first place.  You would be off on some island that was all yours, enjoying drinks and maid service.  You also want to know that the business you invest in will provide you and your family with a financial security.  You have to be able to make money and be successful, or there’s really no point in opening a business to begin with, right?  That said, let’s take a look at the envelope stuffing business.

Sounds Too Good to Be True – This old saying is definitely something you should take into consideration.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  When you hear about the envelope stuffing business, you probably hear that you will make $1 or $2 for every envelope you stuff.  That sounds like a great opportunity, right?  If you assume that you could stuff at least 20 envelopes an hour, that’s $40 for an hour’s worth of easy work.

The problem is, it doesn’t work this way.  They don’t tell you before you purchase the starter kit, that you won’t make money on every envelope.  What you are sending out is the same opportunity you received, and a lot of people won’t go for it.  So, you really only get money if the company gets paid.  Well, that’s a completely different story, right?  If you stuff 20 envelopes an hour, probably only one or two of those people will sign up, if that many.  That cuts your profits down to about $4 an hour or less.  Suddenly stuffing envelopes doesn’t seem so easy.

Upfront Information – If a business is legitimate, they will give you the complete details of their business up front.  They might not let you in on their top marketing details, or business strategy, but they will let you know exactly how much money you can make, and what it will take for you to make it.  When you sign up for the envelope stuffing business, you get almost no information at all until you purchase their starter kit.  That sounds a little sketchy, but what you find out when you get the package is worse.

They will tell you, after you’ve spent the money on their kit, that you will have to let others know about the envelope stuffing business to make any money at all.  Whether this is sending out their special letters, like the one you got, or advertising for them.  What you will be doing with this business is something completely different than what you originally thought.

Guarantees – You want to be guaranteed in any business opportunity that you will make money, if you do the work.  This means the work that you read about before you purchased anything from the business.  With the envelope stuffing business, you just don’t get that guarantee.  You also want to be guaranteed that you will be able to speak with a company representative when you need clarification or help.  Unfortunately, when you try to contact someone from the envelope stuffing business, you are almost always unable to find anyone to speak to, or you hear a message saying that the telephone number has been disconnected.  This is just one in a series of red flags that say ‘scam.’

Bottom line – If you want to invest in a business where you will probably make no money, and will in fact be sending your own money out for nothing, you might want to consider the envelope stuffing business.  However, if you’d like a legitimate home based business opportunity, you will probably want to step away from the envelope stuffing advertisement.
